PETALING JAYA, May 21 – Kelana Jaya Line (LRT) light rail service was halted for two hours yesterday due to a broken down train which suffered a hydraulic brake caliper leak, affecting around 22 100 passengers.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd managing director Amir Hamdan said the situation prevented the brake caliper from working while the train was running, making it dangerous to continue its journey.

“For safety, we decided to run the train manually from Pasar Seni LRT station to the pocket track near Universiti LRT station.

“However, while passing KL Sentral Station, the brake system failed due to a hydraulic fluid leak which caused the train to stop as it was no longer safe to drive manually,” said he said at a press conference at the Subang Rapid Rail Complex. , here today.

Amir said the brake system replacement and repair work which started in October 2021 is expected to be completed by November 30 this year.

“As of today, the project (modernization and repair works) is more than 39% complete,” he said.

Amir said it was the second time such an incident had occurred in two weeks involving the Kelana Jaya line.

“We would like to apologize to all passengers who experienced delays and difficulties in getting to their respective destinations.

“Affected passengers are entitled to obtain a travel voucher which must be redeemed within five days and must be redeemed at any LRT Rapid KL counter within five days from today,” said he declared.

Kelana Jaya Line LRT service was halted at 4.36pm yesterday after a train was stranded at KL Sentral LRT station. Services were fully restored at 6:36 p.m., after the work of moving the train was completed. — Bernama
