Megaport Limited (ASX: MP1) (“Megaport”), one of the world’s leading Network as a Service (NaaS) providers, today announced the availability of VMware SD-WAN on Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE). VMware SD-WANs will be interoperable with MVE to enable branch-to-cloud connectivity over Megaport’s software-defined global network (SDN).
Optimizing VMware SD-WAN Connectivity
Many companies have adopted SD-WAN and Internet connections to simplify their IT connectivity. With VMware SD-WAN available on MVE, customers can host virtual SD-WAN controllers located on Megaport’s global platform and reduce the distance that data travels on Internet paths from branch offices to critical services in public clouds or private and even other branches.
Once connected, VMware customers can access Megaport’s leading ecosystem of more than 700 activated data centers globally and more than 360 service providers, including more than 220 cloud ramps from major global clouds such as Alibaba Cloud, AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud and Salesforce.
Strengths of VMware SD-WAN on MVE:
- Reduced cloud exit costs to cloud ramps compared to Internet tariffs.
- Distributed worldwide for localized connections.
- Point-and-click network provisioning to support interconnection between branch offices, data centers, cloud providers and IT departments.
- Real-time provisioning of virtual network infrastructure and interconnects.
- No hardware to ship, install or manage.
- End-to-end unified network provisioning and management to transform existing networks.
- More secure multi-cloud connections to over 360 service providers, over 700 activated data centers and over 220 cloud interconnection points.
Craig Connors, Vice President and General Manager of VMware, said: “VMware SD-WAN in combination with Megaport Virtual Edge gives customers more choices to simplify WAN operations, reliable network performance for mission-critical applications, and greater adoption. easy hybrid and multi-cloud cloud, while reducing latency for cloud workloads.
Transforming networking at the periphery
MVE is both a globally distributed compute and network service. The compute aspect of the service allows customers to host NFV instances where they need them, on demand, and manage them with a simple point and click. On the network side, MVE’s integrated transit gateway provides a highly scalable access point to connect networks, via the public Internet, to Megaport’s private SDN. Virtualized devices hosted on MVE can use the transit gateway to create connections between the SDN Megaport and their own networks, including branch offices, data centers, and private clouds.
MVE is available in 24 cities in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe. This allows customers more flexibility to deploy virtual devices near user concentrations to locate traffic and optimize data termination for performance.
“As businesses and service providers rapidly adopt SD-WAN technology to improve edge network connectivity, the ability for Megaport customers to easily ‘run’ VMware SD-edge routers within minutes. WAN around the world on our platform is a great catalyst for global organizations, ”said Vincent English, CEO of Megaport. “Having VMware SD-WAN in Megaport’s software-defined global network allows our customers to optimize their SD-WAN connectivity to improve overall network and application performance at a fraction of the cost of traditional methods. “
