According to their new-ish marketing scheme, Ditech believes that “people are smart.”  Or rather, Ditech believes that saying “people are smart,” in their advertisements will cause people to get loans from their company.

Hmm.

There are two things wrong with this marketing scheme:

1.  People are not smart.

2.  People don’t even want to be told, “people are smart.”   No one thinks that people are smart.  That would be stupid.  What people do like to hear is, “you are smart.”  Everyone thinks that they are smart, but no one is stupid enough to think that everyone is smart.  Even the really, really, not smart people.

In other words:

This scheme would only really work if Ditech was wrong, and people were really so stupid that they thought, “people are smart.”
